Homemade Infant Formula Recipe
I recently weaned my 9-month-old from the breast and am now exclusively formula feeding. The only issue was that I was not sure if I was 100% comfortable with all the ingredients in the powdered formulas available in the market right now. I went with Kendamil Organic Infant Powdered Formula for the time being, but I silently wished there was a better alternative.
It was not until I heard an interview featuring Sally Fallon Morell on The Spillover (now called Culture Apothecary) where she explained how she and a colleague put together a homemade baby formula recipe with much cleaner ingredients that she used on her adoptive infant who had a lot of health issues and that now thousands of babies have drank as their primary source of food for decades now. The exact podcast episode can be found below:

The orignal recipe, as mentioned in the podcast episode comes from The Weston A. Price Foundation. To start of, the homemade formula posted here does not contain any vegetable oils which is already a huge win. The original recipe does contain sunflower oil, but I stick with extra virgin cold pressed coconut oil and extra virgin cold pressed olive oil for my baby’s formula only. I believe these are two of the best oils our babies could benefit from and not inflammatory.
Some other tweaks to the recipe was the amount of cod liver oil added. I found 1 tsp to be too strong for my baby at first, so I recommend starting at 1/4 tsp to begin with and work your way up to 1 tsp, to allow your baby (and yourself) to get accustomed to the smell and taste.
Sally Morell also wrote a book called Nourishing Traditions, where she dives deep into the importance of quality nutrition for the family. She is the founder of the Weston A. Price Foundation and has written many other books.

Now back to the formula!
My baby absolutely loves her homemade formula and I, feel so much relief knowing I have a say on what is in her formula for the first time. Can I get a sigh of relief? Honestly, it was a Godsend and I could not be more grateful.
I have seen the benefits on her overall well-being and digestion; not to mention how she finishes and enjoys every ounce. The least I can do is share this wonderful formula with other mothers who are looking for the best alternative to store-bought formula.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. I am here to support you in your journey. I know the ingredients may feel daunting but trust me, once you have all the ingredients – all of which I get from Radiant Life – you will soon develop a momentum and it will become second nature. I can prep and make in the formula in 10 minutes now with ease.
